In fact, single pass UV inkjet printing has a fixed scientific formula to calculate the most matched line speed and vertical DPI. Once you master this rule, you can quickly complete parameter tuning for all single-pass printing scenarios.
We use the mainstream industrial Toshiba CF6 printhead as the standard example to share two core calculation methods that every printing technician should master.
Every printhead has a fixed firing frequency, which determines its upper limit of printing speed under standard resolution. For Toshiba CF6, the firing frequency is 28kHz with a native vertical resolution of 600 DPI.
Universal Single-Pass Speed Formula:
Max Line Speed (m/min) = (Firing Frequency × 1524) ÷ Vertical DPI
Real Calculation:
Max Speed = (28000 × 1524) ÷ 600 ≈ 71.12 m/min
This result represents the fastest stable speed under 600DPI high-precision mode. Running within this range ensures uniform ink dots, complete color restoration and no stretching distortion for packaging, labels and fine pattern printing.

When factories need higher linear speed for simple content such as variable QR codes, batch coding and text marking, you can reverse calculate the reasonable resolution to avoid unnecessary precision waste.
Universal DPI Reverse Calculation Formula:
Vertical DPI = (Firing Frequency × 1524) ÷ Target Line Speed
Real Case (100m/min High-Speed Mode):
DPI = (28000 × 1524) ÷ 100 = 426.72 DPI
This lower resolution perfectly adapts to high-speed variable data printing. It greatly improves production capacity while fully meeting the clarity requirements of codes, serial numbers and simple graphics.
